U.S.-Canada Border Restrictions Go Into Effect – According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, as of January 15, 2022, U.S. truck drivers entering Canada must show proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID or they will be denied entry. Drivers must use the ArriveCan app to upload their vaccination information to enter the country.
Drivers transporting oxygen and other medical gases into Canada are exempt from the COVID vaccine requirements and may enter the country without proof of vaccination or quarantining upon arrival into the country. Canadian border officers have been provided guidance consistent with this interpretation.
In addition, as of January 22, 2022, Canadian truck drivers entering the U.S. must show proof of being fully vaccinated before being allowed to enter this country. This is the same vaccination requirement that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security began in November 2021 for non-essential travelers entering the U.S.
At this time there does not appear to be any exemption from the vaccination requirements for drivers transporting medical gases seeking to enter the United States, however.
To meet the requirements of being ‘fully vaccinated’ to enter the U.S. or Canada, travelers must have received either two doses of the Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Covaxin, Covishield, BIBP/Sinopharm or Sinovac vaccines; or one dose of the Janssen/Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
To be considered fully vaccinated, you must have received the full series of a vaccine, or a combination of vaccines that is accepted by the U.S. and Canadian Governments at least 14 days prior to entering the country.
